Who Are Oskorei?

Oskorei are a Dark Age or Early Medieval re-enactment group based in Bristol, UK. We are the riders of the wild hunt!

The word "oskorei" comes from Scandinavian and refers to 'Odin's wild hunt', a band of warriors, led by the leader of the Norse 'gods', who ride across the world hunting men. Different cultures suggest different leaders for the hunt: Woden (Saxon god), Diana (Classical Greek goddess), even King Arthur of the Britains or Sir Walter Raleigh!

We portray life in and around a band of semi-professional warriors in Britain in the times of the Vikings, the Anglo-Saxons, and the Normans. We portray soldiers, mercenaries, & raiders, with the families, craftspeople, traders, and retainers who would have accompanied them on their travels.

We have been meeting in Nailsea, near Bristol, UK for three years but our members have decades of experience between them - including two who have been 'at it' for over two decades each.

We provide combat and "living history" displays for festivals and events at historical sites and for school and village fetes across the country. In 2007 we took our encampment as far as Lincoln Castle, Battle Abbey (Sussex, site of the Battle Of Hastings), Tintagenal Castle (Cornwall), and White Castle and Caldecott Castle (Wales).

We size our display to your event and budget. The display, offering an insight into Early-Medieval culture, can range from a single character in full dress or armour giving an interactive in-character talk to a classroom to a fully-tented village of warriors, craftspeople, camp-followers and families. We can also provide trained warriors, craftspeople, etc, and equipment for martial arts displays and film-work.
